Dry mouth, stomach-knotting fear grips Mary’s heart, mind and body. Hastily under cover of darkness, Mary and husband Joseph, with their child Jesus, flee to the unknown land of Egypt.
A fictionalized story of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and her struggles with a primeval fear for the life of a child cloaked in prophesy and entrusted to her. Returning to Nazareth some years later Mary finds the townspeople still have memories of her pregnancy before her marriage and she suffers the rebuffs of the town’s women.
Joseph reestablishes his carpentry trade and their family continues to grow until there are seven children. Over time old memories fade as Joseph’s talent as a carpenter is recognized. Mary enjoys a few years of relatively peace but suddenly her old fears bloom again when Jesus becomes a wandering rabbi and an offense to those in power.
