When Lewt, the poorest man in the village, asks a farmer for some vegetables to eat, he isn’t expecting to have to do any work. And he certainly isn’t planning on learning a valuable lesson. He just wants something to eat. But the farmer makes Lewt promise to follow his instructions and plant the seeds in a very particular manner in return for the kukarmbers. Will Lewt keep his promise and follow all of the directions? Adapted from Jesus’ parable found in Matthew 13:1-23, (The Parable of the Sower), “Kukarmbers” tells the story of a man who is learning how to take responsibility for his life by listening to and following directions. Though the process of creating a garden and taking care of the plants is not an easy one for him, he finally succeeds. A change eventually takes place in the man’s life and in his heart. He learns the spiritual law of sowing and reaping.
