To recognize and accept his love of us, to love him back and to love each other as well as ourselves.
The Pharisee asked “Teacher, which command in the law is the most important?”
Jesus answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind.’ This is the first and most important command. And the second is like the first: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself’. All the law and the writings of the prophets depend on these two commands.”
Matthew 22:36
This is the core of Christianity. How well are we living up to this command? Are we putting on airs that we are following his law or do we internalize it into our hearts? Have we become the Pharisees? We might be able to fool each other, but He sees our inner most being. He knows why we do what we do. Sometimes I look around and see that in some cases our behavior hinders the spread of his Word to those around us. We are suppose to be representing Christ to the world, but many times our humanness gets in the way and we are judgmental, condescending and even down right hateful.
I wanted to share with others what I have come to know. That God is love and when his Holy Spirit resides within our hearts, we should be loving too – even to our enemies, to the marginalized, the “sinners”. I hope this is a compass for my fellow Christians to get us to think and get back on track so that we might be living examples of what that looks like…
