BISAC: Fiction / Christian / Romance

Sandy, a non-Christian girl in her twenties from St. Catharines, Ontario, is traveling to Moresby, the southernmost of the Queen Charlotte Islands, off the coast of British Columbia. She is passionately anticipating a great adventure with her non-Christian RCMP boyfriend Kevin. On her travels she meets a wonderful Christian woman, Olivia, who asks Sandy some soul searching questions about her relationship with her boyfriend. Although Sandy does not wish to contemplate these questions, and tries to postpone it to a more convenient time, the questions keep re-surfacing and she finds herself in the situation where she has to deal with these questions.

Through various circumstances, Sandy meets Todd, a Christian friend of her boyfriend, who helps her come to terms with some deep soul searching about who God is and why He gave us freedom of choice. The whole scenario is complicated by Kevin’s affair with a beautiful non-Christian girl, Shawna, whose intemperate nature and lack of character is highlighted by her disrespectful attitude toward Christianity in general. She is constantly stirring the waters of discontent amongst all the people on the camping trip and plots how she can make sure that Sandy is out of the picture as far as her relationship with Kevin is concerned.

In the breathtaking beauty of the Charlottes beseeching the evidence of God’s creation, Sandy finally asks God into her heart on a remote beach on the west coast of Moresby Island. Sandy also searches for forgiveness for her past poor choices. With God’s grace and Todd’s encouragement, she works through dealing with the consequences she suffers due to those choices, and with ending her five year relationship with her boyfriend, Kevin. Todd also helps Sandy find comfort in giving her fears to God, and in knowing that God will help her come to terms with a deep seated fear of bears which is left over from a traumatic childhood experience. With a surprise twist of fate and an ending that Sandy could just not have imagined, the whole adventure takes place in 1980 where the spectacular scenery and unique characteristics of the flora, fauna, ocean creatures and natural beauty of the Queen Charlotte Islands is highlighted.
