Fill in the blank… “And you shall know the truth and the truth shall ____ you free.” The overall majority will answer “set.” Your translation of John 8:32 may even use the word set. The King James Version however does not. It uses the word make, and with good reason. Psalm 124:7 states, “Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.” The fact the snare is broken implies God does not simply open the door to our entrapment. He disassembles the cage. There is therefore a noteworthy difference of both the power and effectiveness of between being set free and being made free. We can limit the power of God through the misuse of a single word, and often do. If the only thing we allow truth to accomplish is to open a door to the cage of our own making, nothing changes. However, if we allow truth to completely demolish the prison to the extent it can no longer be rebuilt, there will no longer be a place to return. It is the objective of the author, through the biblically-based stories, articles and essays contained in Wake-up Call to not merely change your mind, but, through God’s grace, make it free.
